Segunda striker heading for the South Coast

The Saints are battling with Brighton and Hove Albion for the signature of Almeria striker Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan international scored 16 times in 32 games this season but it wasn’t enough to get his side promoted to La Liga.

Southampton have already bid 11 million for Nunez, who has been compared to Edinson Cavani.

But Brighton are bidding for the striker as well who is keen for an opportunity to play in the premier league.

Elsewhere the saints are being linked to Schalke’s American midfielder Weston McKennie, who’s valued at around £21million.

And Captain James Ward Prowse has extended his stay at St Marys, signing a new 5-year contract, having joined the club at just 8 years old.
