Promising young defender could be the first of several new signings

Burnley have officially announced defender Nathan Collins as their first new signing of the summer transfer window.

He joins the Clarets from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract. The highly-rated 20-year-old is a graduate of the Stoke Academy. From there he went on to make 49 first-team appearances, including one game which gave him the record for being their youngest ever captain.

Play-wise, he’s a commanding centreback who has also played at right-back and he’s represented the Republic of Ireland at U-21 level.

Chairman Alan Pace said he was very pleased to get one of the most promising young players in the country and went on to suggest that with the new setup at the club, there’ll be more signings to follow throughout the summer.
