The win means Thomas Tuchel’s side now leapfrog the Hammers in the scrap for Champions League qualification after Liverpool slipped against Newcastle earlier today.

Neither side generated much excitement at the empty London Stadium early on with Lukasz Fabianski on hand to keep out tame efforts from Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic.

But just as the Blues looked set to head frustrated at the break Tuchel’s side found the breakthrough as the much maligned Timo Werner finally found the back of the net.

The German international has endured a tough time in his debut season in England but he showed real poise to race into the box and bury Ben Chilwell’s cross.

But despite making the crucial mark before the break, the former Leipzig man showed that all too familiar inconsistency after the restart, as he lashed wide from Fabianski’s spill.

However, despite a few limp attempts to force their way back into late one, the Hammers day was wrapped up as Fabian Balbuena was sent off for a high foot on Chilwell.

Full Time from the London Stadium it’s West Ham 0 Chelsea 1
