Chelsea have bounced back to winning ways this weekend as Thomas Tuchel’s side clinched a 3-1 win over 10-man Southampton.
Tuchel’s Chelsea side has endured a difficult week with back to back losses for the first time at the club but his team showed their steel to seal all three points against Southampton.
The Blues looked to click into gear right from the start as Trevor Chalobah nodded them in front from Ben Chilwell’s corner.
And that early goal set the tone for Chelsea before the break with Alex McCarthy keeping out Chilwell before VAR controversially denied Timo Werner.
That decision put Martin Atkinson on the wrong side of the home fans and he found himself in their bad books again on the hour after awarding Southampton a stone cold spot kick.
Chilwell’s clumsy challenge on Tino Livramento gave him little choice and the ever-reliable James Ward-Prowse composed himself to tuck past Edouard Mendy.
But despite the setback, Chelsea continued to flood forward late on with McCarthy incredibly keeping out Werner, before Saints skipper Ward-Prowse was dismissed for a lunge at Jorginho.
And with that crucial man advantage it was Chelsea who finally found the edge as the luckless Werner finally grabbed his moment.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s volleyed cross was steered home by the German before Chilwell finally clinched it as he stepped up to smash home a third.
Full Time from Stamford Bridge it’s Chelsea 3-1 Southampton
