Chelsea have edged themselves into the FA Cup semi-finals thanks to a scrappy 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

Thomas Tuchel’s side remain on course for a strong end to the season as an own goal from Ollie Norwood and late strike from Hakim Ziyech sealed their last four spot.

Neither side created much in a sluggish first 45 minutes as the Blues were gifted an opener on 24 minutes.

United only half cleared a dangerous corner on the edge of the box and Ben Chilwell’s scuffed cross was diverted home by Norwood.

That little bounce of fortune did wake Chelsea up before the break as Christian Pulisic pounced onto a defensive mistake, but Aaron Ramsdale stayed big to make the block.

The Blades did look to battle on after the restart but the Premier League’s bottom side blinked at the vital moment.

John Lundstrum’s cross dropped invitingly for David McGoldrick in the six-yard box but the Irishman planted his header wide of the post.

And as hard as the Blades fought in the final minutes they could not find a way through, as sub Rhian Brewster fired one just wide, before Ziyech sealed it in added time.

Full Time at Stamford Bridge it’s Chelsea 2 Sheffield United 0
