Chelsea have picked up where they left off before the international break with a straightforward 2-0 win at Newcastle.

Frank Lampard’s side are now unbeaten in over two months in all competitions, as they move to the top of the Premier League table.

The Blues dominated right from kick off at St. James, with Karl Darlow called into early action to deny Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham.

And with the traffic all heading in one direction on Tyneside, Chelsea edged in front on 10 minutes.

Mason Mount’s low cross was fizzed into the back post and the unfortunate Federico Fernandez got himself in a real mess to bundle into his own net.

But despite their dominance, Chelsea were unable to build on their advantage before the break, with Werner wasting a brilliant chance.

Lampard’s team kept up the momentum after the break, as Kurt Zouma skidded a header wide from Mount’s corner.

However, with Newcastle unable to take advantage of the situation, the Blues made the game safe with 25 to go.

Werner led a rapid Chelsea counter from inside the Newcastle half and he fed in Abraham to confidently fire past Darlow.

Newcastle almost launched a late rally as Sean Longstaff fired an effort off the bar, and Miguel Almiron tested Edouard Mendy, but they were unable to break the Blues grip.
