Chelsea’s pursuit of German international Kai Havertz appears to be reaching a conclusion.

Despite the apparent end of a well-documented transfer chase, things don’t seem to be straightforward.

Frank Lampard’s desire to bring the Bayer Leverkusen man to Stamford Bridge has been simmering for a matter of months now, with Chelsea trying to thrash out a deal with the Bundesliga side for the 21-year-old.

Reports last week claimed that the Blues and Leverkusen had agreed on a £72m deal to bring Havertz to the Premier League, with that fee potentially rising to as much as £100m.

However, both clubs are yet to announce the deal and there are conflicting reports in the German media as to whether the player has even completed his Chelsea medical.

BILD Sport suggest that Havertz has completed his medical ahead of the switch, whereas SPORT1 say that the forward is yet to complete his health check.

Currently Havertz is on international duty with Germany for their Nations League game with Switzerland on Sunday, after which it’s said he is free to fly to London.
