Aston Villa have kept alive their Europa League chances this weekend thanks to 2-1 win at rivals Everton.
Dean Smith’s side now end the weekend six points outside the Europa spots as Everton’s own European hopes slipped again.
Both sides looked on the ball right from the start on Merseyside with a goal apiece inside the first 20 minutes.
Mason Holgate’s clanger was pounced upon by Ollie Watkins on the edge of the box and the England man bullied his way on to power past Jordan Pickford.
But the Toffees were stung back into immediate action as star man Dominic Calvert-Lewin nodded home Lucas Digne’s corner.
However, it was Villa who swept back into the ascendency before the break as Anwar El Ghazi and former Toffee Ross Barkley tested the Goodison woodwork.
And this one continued to see saw again after the restart as Emiliano Martinez thwarted Calvert-Lewin and a sprawling Pickford kept out Watkins.
But in a frantic final 15 minutes it took a cool head to clinch for Villa as El Ghazi stepped inside Seamus Coleman and bent home a fantastic winner.
Full Time from Goodison Park it’s Everton 1 Aston Villa 2
