Arsenal have forced their way back into the race for Europe as a 2-1 win over Tottenham leaves North London painted red this weekend.

Spurs struggled to build on their positive recent form as a resurgent Gunners snatched bragging rights and a vital three points at the Emirates.

Arsenal were in dominant mood from the start in this one as rising star Emile Smith-Rowe cracked one off the bar in a one-way first half hour.

But with the Gunners unable to make all that early possession stick it was substitute Erik Lamela who punished them in outrageous fashion.

Lucas Moura’s flick found him in space inside the box and Lamela’s cheeky rabona flew straight past Bernd Leno.

But all credit to Arsenal as they refused to get sucked in by that setback before half time, as Cedric Soares hit a post, and Danish star Martin Odegaard tucked home a confident equaliser.

And Mikel Arteta’s side that kept up that positive momentum after the restart, as Hugo Lloris produced a vital stop from Alexandre Lacazette.

But the Frenchman wasted no time in making up for that miss just beyond the hour as he emphatically tucked home from the spot after being hauled down by Davinson Sanchez.

Spurs’ late task was made even harder as Lamela was sent off for a second yellow.

But Harry Kane’s added time free kick almost nicked a point as it came back off the upright and Sanchez’s
follow up was hacked away by Gabriel.

Full Time on derby day at the Emirates Stadium it’s Arsenal 2 Tottenham 1
