Manchester United have missed the chance to close the gap at the top of the Premier League as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were held to a 0-0 draw at Arsenal.
Neither side could create a breakthrough on a high stakes night in North London as Mikel Arteta’s improving hosts sneak up to 8th.
Both teams were restricted to long range pot shots in a low key first half as Alexandre Lacazette and Fred tried to make their mark.
And neither Solskjaer nor Arteta could force an opening after the break with defences firmly on top at both ends.
Lacazette came the closest to conjuring an opener on 65 minutes, as his free kick crashed against the bar, with David De Gea quick to block Emile Smith-Rowe’s follow up.
United did carve out a flurry of chances late on, as Arsenal looked to push their advantage, with Bernd Leno producing a superb stop to deny Paul Pogba.
