Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that “top kid” Angel Gomes has been offered a new contract at the club.
The 19-year-old midfielder made his United debut in 2017, in the process becoming the first player born in the 21st century to feature in the Premier League.
Since his league bow over 3 years ago, though, Gomes has featured just 4 times in the top flight since.
It’s a disappointing statistic for a player who was tipped for a bright future in the game after captaining England to U17 World Cup glory in 2017.
Gomes is out of contract at the end of June, and Manchester United have offered the talent a new deal at Old Trafford according to manager Solskjaer.
It’s a contract that the Norwegian feels the player is close to signing.
“He’s a top, top kid that we’ve had in the club for so many years and we’ve offered him a deal,” Solskjaer said.
“Hopefully he’ll take that. If not, I wish him all the best.
“Hopefully from what I understand it’s not too far away. If not, we’ll wish him all the best.”
