Bournemouth’s relegation worries continue to deepen after a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Cherries had a golden opportunity to create some breathing space at the bottom of the table, with West Ham United losing to Wolves earlier on in the day.
Eddie Howe’s side struggled for inspiration throughout, however, as first half Palace goals from Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew did the damage.
The Eagles were quickest out of the blocks on the South Coast, as veteran midfielder Milivojevic put them in front on 12 minutes.
The Serbian has endured an injury wrecked season so far, but offered a timely reminder of his quality with an inch-perfect free kick to hand his side the advantage.
With Bournemouth still reeling, Jordan Ayew made it 2-0 ten minutes later.
Palace’s top scorer wriggled into space inside the box and calmly tapped home Patrick van Aanholt’s cross.
Bournemouth showed some signs of life after the break as Nathan Ake tested Vicente Guaita from a corner.
But with little to no attacking intent from Howe’s side in the closing stages, Palace were able to cruise to the three points, much to the chagrin of the Cherries.
